At Sonnenglas, we firmly believe that design has the power to create not just aesthetic, but social miracles as well. Our Light Carafes are handcrafted from 100% recycled glass collected in Eswatini. For many people there, collecting bottles is their only source of income. Breathing new life into what seems like "waste" not only creates beautiful products but also provides urgently needed livelihood opportunities.

For You, For the Makers, and For Our Environment

The journey from raw material to the elegant Light Carafe begins with gathering and sorting discarded bottles. These are cleaned, shredded, and then melted in a furnace fueled by waste cooking oil. The entire production process relies on sustainable energy sources and supports the communities involved. Every step, from glassblowing to the final polish, requires not only artisanal skill but also teamwork. It takes about a year for the talented artisans at Ngwenya Glass to master the skills necessary to craft a Light Carafe. But the effort is worthwhile: the end result is a product that unites utility, beauty, and social progress.

The Sonnenglas Light Carafe, made of hand-blown glass, transforms into an atmospheric table lamp with the SOMO Solar Light. Its modular design is not only practical but also creates a magical ambiance while promoting positive ecological and social impact.

An integrated metal point on the neck of the Light Carafe allows the light to be turned on with a simple twist of the SOMO. The carafe comes with a cork and remains an elegant, timeless object even without the solar module, suitable for use in the fridge.

Four Models and Two Sizes

Our Light Carafes come in two sizes, 750 ml and 1000 ml, each available in two color variants and are also dishwasher safe. This exceptional combination of sustainability, aesthetics, and functionality sets new standards, once again demonstrating that great design can offer practical benefits and positively impact society.
