Sonnenglas®: The First Solar Lamp with the Blue Angel!

We have fantastic news! A major milestone has been reached: Our Sonnenglas® has become the very first solar lamp to receive the renowned environmental label from the German government, the "Blue Angel"!

So green, it’s already blue

As you know, we at Sonnenglas® place a great emphasis on sustainability. The award of the Blue Angel shows that we are on the right track. The environmental label has been awarded to particularly environmentally friendly products for over 45 years. The awarding guideline UZ 116 for solar-powered products has been in place for 12 years, and we are incredibly proud that our solar lamp is the first to meet these strict criteria.

The heart of our solar lantern, the SOMO solar module, was thoroughly examined by the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE in Freiburg.

What was examined?

Although the award criteria for solar lamps by the Blue Angel have existed for over 12 years, no product had yet received the environmental label. After reviewing the award criteria, we quickly understood why.

The Blue Angel considers:

Product design and concept: Durability, quality, recyclability, including warranty conditions
Materials: Freedom from harmful substances and environmental compatibility
Performance: Light duration and brightness
Transparency: Honest communication about the product

The best independent light source for both people AND the environment

Sonnenglas® was developed as an emission-free light source that can replace candles, paraffin lamps, and other fossil lighting sources—especially in Africa, but also worldwide. Sonnenglas® combines sustainable product design with our own Fair-Trade production in South Africa. Our goal is to develop products that are good for both people and the environment. We make no compromises and are pleased that the Blue Angel has reaffirmed this.

The award motivates us to keep going. We will expand our product range and continuously invest in sustainable innovations. Because we want to make not only your home but also the world a little better and brighter.
