The rainbow animal - a gift to the flood victims of Ahrweiler

Teacher Britta Wagner from the Odenwald wanted to help - and came up with a very special story

When Britta Wagner saw the images of the flood disaster on television in summer 2021, one thing became clear to her: she wanted to help. However, the secondary school teacher couldn't just pack her bag and head off to the disaster area 300 kilometers away. Instead, she wanted to focus on her skills and use them to help - the 49-year-old is studying communication design alongside her job.

And so one thing led to another: While pondering, her eyes fell on the Sonnenglas® that her husband had bought from a world store years ago. The crocheted stuffed animal in rainbow colors, which she had bought at a flea market, was added - and so the story of the Rainbow animal that survives the flood in Sonnenglas®.

Britta Wagner contacted us by email to present her idea: a Limited Edition with a rainbow animal in a Sonnenglas®, plus the story as a small booklet - lovingly illustrated by Britta Wagner, of course. The proceeds were to be donated to a good cause as part of the flood relief effort. Enthusiastic about the idea, the Sonnenglas® team set everything in motion. And good things take time: It took a year and a half to implement the entire project, as many supply chains were paralyzed by the pandemic.

Help is still needed

Almost two years after the flood, reconstruction is still underway, and slowly at that. Many buildings are being restored or are even still uninhabitable. There is a lack of craftsmen and building materials. Despite the immense willingness to donate, there are still shortages everywhere.

Aktion Kleiner Prinz Internationale Hilfe für Kinder in Not e.V. from Warendorf has provided financial support to families with children in particular. The association is currently concentrating on supporting children who have experienced traumatic stress. The donations will be used to finance positions for specialists to support children who have experienced traumatic stress. To this end, care rooms for children and young people are to be set up. We would like to support this project and donate €10 to "Aktion Kleiner Prinz" for every Rainbow Animal Edition sold.
