Tunnel Adventure: Light Where There’s Only Darkness

One of the week’s standout moments was a scenario in which the participants had to escape the “underworld.” The setting: an abandoned railway tunnel, pitch-black, cold, and mysterious.

In this eerie environment, the scouts had to rely solely on their senses and a little bit of technology. The SOMOs became an essential companion. Worn on the wrist or easily concealed in the hand, they provided a warm, non-glaring light. The SOMO Mini was particularly easy to hide, without sacrificing brightness.

“The SOMOs were the perfect companion - easy to wear, easy to hide, and their warm light really guided us through the darkness.”

What stood out most: the SOMO’s light beam was much wider than expected, offering surprisingly good visibility, even in the blackest of tunnels. For many of the scouts, it was a real eye-opener.

Tough, Long-Lasting, and Solar-Hungry

Outdoor gear needs to be tough ... and the SOMOs certainly delivered. Falls from up to 1.5 meters onto rough railway gravel? No problem. Scratches? Barely noticeable. Loss of brightness? None at all.

The SOMOs were in constant use all day long and still shone as if freshly charged. What we especially loved hearing: the solar charging worked extremely well, and the option to charge via cable proved practical during long nights.

“The SOMOs lasted the entire day without losing any brightness. Even after falling a few times, they kept working flawlessly. We were seriously impressed.”

Improvised Light Art at the Campfire

At the final evening gathering — during the traditional campfire singing — the SOMOs were cleverly repurposed: placed on top of bottles or jars, they became makeshift Sonnenglases. A beautiful and creative gesture that shows just how versatile these little lights are.

Another fun fact: the SOMOs were given out as prizes and became instant favorites among the participants, many of whom continued to use them long after the camp ended.

Conclusion: SOMOs in the Field – Test Passed with Flying Colors

This week, shaped by Zeus, Hades & Co., reminded us once again: light is more than just brightness. It’s orientation, safety and sometimes even a touch of magic.

We’re deeply grateful to the scout group for sharing this honest, inspiring field report. And we’re proud that our SOMOs stood up to one of their toughest outdoor tests yet.
