A Radiant Duo: Partnership with Polarstern
If you haven't heard of Polarstern before, now is the time to change that. Polarstern not only offers sustainable solar power but, together with Africa GreenTec, carries out incredibly important work in Madagascar – and we are proud to support this journey. Some may remember our joint initiative from last year. Now it is time for: new year, new project, and a new opportunity for you to benefit. Everyone already with Polarstern who successfully refers a friend by 31.05.2025 will receive a free Sonnenglas® Sun Jar Mini - in addition to a referral bonus. With Sonnenglas® and Polarstrom, you bring solar energy home not just in our beautiful solar lanterns but also directly from the outlet. And even if you're not yet getting your electricity from Polarstern, we've got solar energy in a double pack for you: Sign up for a new Polarstern tariff and with the code SONNENGLAS25, enjoy a €20 credit on your next annual bill until 30.06.2025.
Sunny Times for Madagascar
Mahasolo Shines Bright: The Next Stage of Polarstern's Solar Project
But what exactly is Polarstern doing in Madagascar? Last year, they set up the country's first solar-powered grid in Mahavelona. And now the expansion continues: The small town of Mahasolo is being connected with 100% solar energy. About 12,300 people live there who previously had no access to a grid power supply. Thanks to Polarstern's new solar project, a 15 km electricity network is being built, bringing solar energy directly to the people – and thanks to a powerful battery system, it works at night too. The network is powered by an impressive 148 kWp solar plant. For Mahasolo, this means: finally, light in schools, clinics, and businesses.
From Sun to Opportunities: Solar Energy Bringing More Than Just Electricity
In the past, work and learning in Mahasolo stopped after sunset. Now, facilities can stay open longer, and at homes, the light creates new opportunities. Businesses suddenly have different production possibilities: from rice milling to welding, to cooling ice cream and yogurt – it's all possible now. More than 700 households and 22 public facilities benefit from the new technology. Solar energy brings not just light, but also clean air, with fewer kerosene lamps and fires being used. In remote regions, this reduces the risk of serious health issues, schools can utilize new technologies, and children can learn and play longer during their leisure time. To put it simple: Life is changing.
Bright Tomorrow: Stepping into a Shining Future with Solar Energy
This project shows that the clever use of solar energy benefits everyone. Whether with solar power at home or through our solar-powered SOMOs and Sun Jars – every bit of support counts. You can contribute to the energy transition by enjoying the warm light of Sonnenglas® products or by supporting projects like the one in Madagascar. Together, we create light for a brighter future.
