This interview is part of a series highlighting the most impressive Sonnenglas tablescapes of 2018. Join us for an inspiring little peek behind-the-scenes with the creative hostesses who designed them!
Beneath a canopy of emerald green leaves, an elegant farmhouse table is set for a whimsical picnic in the trees. A lush arrangement of pillar candles and fresh flowers surrounds a golden birdcage at the center of the table, and the entire setting is bathed in the magical glow of 26 solar jars twinkling romantically in the branches above.
This ethereal atmosphere was dreamed up by Canadian interior designer and lifestyle blogger Karan Barton, who set out to create a fairytale experience for her dinner guests by constructing a secret garden in her own backyard.
We had the chance to chat with Karan about how she put together this spectacular tablescape!
I wanted something that felt a little magical, that made me think of a secret garden.
This little deck area is at the back of our property and has a beautiful canopy of branches. I thought it would be perfect for hanging the lanterns.
A simple salad with salmon and of course some ice cream for dessert.
Hanging the lanterns and frame was super easy. We just used twine and tied them to the branches above.
The branches dictated where the lanterns would hang. I liked the way it wasn’t exactly uniform.
I’ve had these bowls for years, they are part of my everyday dishes.
The lanterns created the mood and with the stillness of the night, it was magical.
My guests felt relaxed and seemed to really enjoy the whole experience. I was told that it all felt like a fairytale.
It always feels cozy and casual. People tend to relax more and just "be"...
We are moving and I hope to do some outside dining on our front veranda. There is always something so magical about dining outside!
